Victor: Yamal doesn’t care much about outside criticism. He can score against four people in a row during training.

In an interview, former Barcelona forward Paulo Victor shared topics such as Yamal’s character and the impact of Flick’s tactical philosophy on the Barcelona team.
How would you describe Yamal, the 18-year-old second-placed player in the Golden Globe Award?
The good thing about Yamal is that he doesn’t care much about outside criticism. He focuses on himself. If someone tells him not to do something, he may do it harder just to get others to say more. People are going to want to shake him up because, well, that's one of the ways they're trying to stop him. I think he's doing a really good job of not listening to that because at the end of the day, as long as he's good on the football field, he can do whatever he wants off the field.
How did he perform in training?
Incredible. On a day when he's trying to win a scrimmage or field goal practice, there's nothing you can do. You just sit back and watch because when he gets the ball, if he wants to get past four guys, he can get past them and score the ball. Yamal is different.
You have only played a few games under Flick. What is your evaluation of him?
I have no complaints against him and am grateful for his treatment. He requires all players to press high from the first to the last minute. This is terrible, because if you don’t press, the next day he will show you the video and say: ‘Look, you didn’t press well this time. ’ You have to press every time and do what he says. Since the game turned out well and you saw that what he said was logical, you did it.
What kind of impact did Flick's defense-based tactics bring to the players at the beginning of the season?
In the preseason, when we were doing a lot of video analysis on the defensive line, they looked at us like, 'Why do you want to move the defense so high? ’ Then we started seeing opponents fall into the offside trap every time, and it worked for us. I suffered from it in training against Inigo, Cubasi, Araujo...it was very difficult to get out of the space behind me. It worked very well, but in the beginning we were saying privately: 'Oh my god, what do we do when you encounter a winger who is so fast and you can't guard him? ’ Now no one in the team has any doubts.
What is Frick like as a person?
We all say that. He's like a father figure to all of us and I think he cares so much about everyone, young and old, which is unbelievable and it's a wonderful thing to be able to enjoy his guidance.
Looking back on your career at Barcelona, what are your gains and regrets?
I took away the championship trophy, as well as the experience of "even scoring two goals for Real Madrid in the preseason, because it changes your life" and "enjoying playing in the best team in the world." The regret is "not being able to play at Camp Nou", and the most difficult thing is losing at the last minute in the Champions League final. "The question should be, who hasn't cried?"
