Former Spanish international David Villa talked about Yamal's responsibility in a video podcast.
Although he is only 18 years old, Yamal has already shown leadership in the offense of Barcelona and the Spanish national team. He is currently injured and has attracted much attention due to the medical dispute between the club and the national team.
"If Yamal realizes that he is carrying the banner of Barcelona and the Spanish national team, his legs may tremble." Villa said that he believes that the best way for the young player is to enjoy the game instead of thinking too much about the pressure.
Villa also recalled his experience of choosing the No. 7 jersey. At the time, he did not know that it would cause many problems. He said if he had known this, he probably would not have chosen the number.
As a two-time European Cup and one-time World Cup winner, Villa talked about some of his key moments in the Spanish national team, including the regret of missing the 2008 European Cup final due to injury.
"I was injured and after taking a free kick I realized I had a broken bone. I didn't cry, but I almost cried because I realized I was going to miss the final." He said, "If someone had told me as a kid that I would play in the European Cup and be the top scorer but miss the final because of injury, I would have accepted it without hesitation. "
Villa also mentioned Aragones' words: "If I can't lead this team to win, I will be a waste, I will retire and no longer coach."
Finally, Villa talked about the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He was very frustrated when he was replaced in the last game of the group stage. "It was a disappointing World Cup. I played as an important player in the first two World Cups, but not this time. In fact, I didn't play until we were eliminated. I was very unhappy about it."
"When I saw the substitutions, I was very angry and wanted to kill Vicente del Bosque. But I don't resent anyone. I hope things can be different and that many players will want to play 98 times for the national team like me." Villa concluded.
