In the second round of Ligue 1, Giroud scored a final goal in stoppage time, helping Lille defeat Monaco 1-0 at home, and scored 2 goals in the first two games of Ligue 1. After the game, he was asked again about the possibility of returning to France.
Giroud said: "Ha, I knew you were asking this... again, my focus was on the club. I said goodbye to the French national team in March."
"As I said last week, it was an extraordinary experience, and I felt lucky and grateful to have that moment. Now I think a new generation of players is rising and I have to make way for the young geniuses. I wrote my story with my teammates, with that excellent team, with that beautiful blue jersey. Now I will be 100% focused on my club and my challenges in Lille this year."
