According to the "Team News", a 50-year-old man was sentenced to one year in prison for multiple frauds that he pretended to be Mahrez and paid 5,000 euros to Mahrez.

The man was punished for forgery and fraud as early as 2006, and between February 2023 and July 2024, he pretended to be Algerian international Mahrez to cheat. For example, he asked actress Layla Behti for tickets to the Caesar Awards and 2 VIP tickets to the Beyoncé concert. He even contacted the director of the French Office of Immigration and Integration as Mahrez, asking the other party to quickly issue a residence permit to one of his friends.

On Wednesday local time, the court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 12 months in prison. In addition, the man had to pay Mahrez 5,000 euros in compensation, of which 2,000 euros were mental damages. The man was also banned from contacting people related to this case.

Mahrez's lawyer said: "The player may be incorrectly prosecuted because of this person's attempt to illegally obtain a free pass. Mahrez has been exhausted recently and has to explain to everyone that he was not contacting the other party."
