Argentine media TyC reported that Messi, who had previously missed Argentina’s friendly match, will play in today’s game between Inter Miami and Atlanta United.
Reports pointed out that although Messi did not play in the friendly match between Argentina and Venezuela due to coach Scaloni's decision, Messi will represent Inter Miami against Atlanta United in the MLS league this week. The Argentina national team expects him to return to the team to participate in a friendly match against Puerto Rico.
Although Messi's absence from the national team's friendly match has attracted attention, it is actually a consensus reached with the coach. Scaloni made it clear after the victory: "Messi's not playing was my decision." In fact, after prioritizing the World Cup qualifiers, this arrangement is designed to allow Messi to focus on participating in the key stages of Miami International's MLS competition, and then return to the team for training.
Messi himself also confirmed that he will play against Atlanta United through a pre-match video on social media. According to the plan, he will then return to Argentina team training to prepare for next Tuesday's friendly match against Puerto Rico.
In addition, after the battle in Puerto Rico, the Argentina team will also arrange two friendly matches in November to prepare for the 2026 World Cup draw in December. The first game is scheduled to be played away from Angola on November 11. The second game was originally planned to be held in India (the opponent has not yet been determined), but the schedule may be adjusted. It is reported that the venue of the competition may be moved to Africa, and Morocco may be a rival. There is no official confirmation yet and the final schedule will be clarified in the coming weeks.
