Marca: Barcelona designated Camp Nou as home court in the Champions League, Montphic Stadium as alternative

11:33am, 29 August 2025Football

According to Marca, Barcelona has informed and confirmed to UEFA that the Camp Nou Stadium will be Barcelona's home stadium for the Champions League this season. The decision was made at the Champions League draw ceremony this Thursday, and each participating club must determine a home game for the four Champions League phase home games before January.

However, this does not mean that Barcelona will definitely hold the Champions League match at the Camp Nou. UEFA allows clubs to provide a backup plan when applying for the Champions League home. In order to prevent the Camp Nou Stadium from being prepared, Barcelona chose Montphic Stadium as an alternative venue.

In this way, Barcelona has obtained more time to complete the construction of the Camp Nou Stadium and ensure that relevant permits are obtained from the city government. No match can be held at the stadium without a license for use and the club has not yet obtained this certificate from the city.

Therefore, Barcelona still has 3 weeks to prepare for the Camp Nou Stadium so that they can participate in the Champions League in this "holy land". A UEFA committee will travel to Barcelona a few days before the first Champions League match to assess the status of the stadium, and although the specific review date has not been determined, it is likely to be held within a week before the match.

As for the home La Liga match against Valencia, Barcelona is working hard to get the John Cruyff Stadium to meet the requirements of La Liga. La Liga officials visited the venue on Wednesday to check what improvements are needed to meet the broadcast needs of the game.
