World Sports: If Nico is injured for more than 28 days, FIFA will need to pay compensation to Bilbao

According to the World Sports, if Nico Williams is injured for more than 28 days, FIFA will need to pay compensation to Athletic Bilbao.

Although Spain beat Türkiye 6-0 away, Nico Williams was forced to leave the court due to pain in the left adductor muscle before the game was halfway through. Spanish national team head coach Dela Fuente admitted at a post-match press conference that the player had muscle problems and the specific injury will not be confirmed after further examination today.

If Nico Williams' injury time exceeds 28 days, Athletic Bilbao will receive compensation under the club protection plan implemented by FIFA since 2014. The plan stipulates that when a player is injured in a national team game, FIFA will pay compensation to the club to which he belongs from day 28.

The coverage starts from the player joining the national team until his national team mission is over or he returns to the club, and the latest is no more than 48 hours after leaving the national team. The compensation will continue until the player recovers from health.

The Spanish Football Association has purchased insurance for such situations, and the maximum compensation amount provided by the plan for each injured player and his club is 7.5 million euros, with a daily compensation cap of 20,548 euros, up to 365 days, and the total annual limit for the entire plan is 80 million euros.

Given that Nico Williams was injured last night, Athletic Bilbao will receive 20,548 euros per day if he has not returned from October 4, which is covered by the insurance policy held by the Spanish Football Association when the national team player is injured.
