4 billion 💵! US media: Trail Blazers valuation soars, no rush to sell due to an upward trend

Today Sports Illustrated reporter Alex Kirschenbaum wrote an article about the sales issues of the Trail Blazers
Since the death of former team owner Paul Allen (see below), he bequeathed minority stakes in the Trail Blazers, the Seattle Seahawks (NFL team) and the Seattle Bayers to his sister Jody. Jody is now responsible for the final sale of the sports assets as the executor of her late brother’s estate.
Not in a hurry to sell may be a wise move, as NBA teams' valuations have risen sharply this year. The controlling stake in the Boston Celtics held by the Grossbeck family was sold at a valuation of $6.1 billion, while the partial ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers held by the Bass family was sold at a valuation of $10 billion. Portland is a small market team (although the city does not have other major professional sports teams) and its valuation will not reach such a high level anytime soon. However, considering Paul Allen bought the Trail Blazers for $70 million in 1988, the return on that investment looks quite considerable.
When the Trail Blazers entered the market, the recent AI evaluation showed that the Seattle Seahawks were valued at $7 billion, while the Trail Blazers were valued at $4 billion, slightly higher than the $6 billion and $3.5 billion recently given by CNBC. But as is the case with the Celtics and the Lakers, once bids start, the valuation may become irrelevant. The final price of both teams may be higher.
Last season, Portland achieved 36 wins and 46 losses and failed to enter the playoffs. But over the past few months, team general manager Joe Cronin has made a big adjustment to the roster. Cronin bought out starting center DeAndre Ayton and selected rookie center Yang Hansen with the 16th pick, and traded six best defender Ju Holiday, and welcomed nine All-Star point guard Damian Lillard. Lillard is recovering from his torn Achilles tendon and may miss the entire 2025-26 season. Can the team return to the playoffs during Billups' coaching? Time will tell us the answer.
